Anabolic Steroids and Competitive Bodybuilding

The International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB) hosts Joe Weider's Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend, an annual international bodybuilding competition, where the professional men's bodybuilding event is conducted.  Joe Weider started the competition so that the Mr. Universe champions could keep competing and make money.

On September 18, 1965, the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City hosted the first Mr. Olympia, which Larry Scott won for the first of two consecutive championships.

The IFBB's official stance on use of anabolic steroids is strictly forbidden however, the judges who oversee the competition do not disqualify the contestants using anabolic steroids, often referred to as 'doping'.

The reason being is that the human body is like a flow, there's limits to how big it can grow, however being at your 'natural' peak is impressive, it pales in comparison to those doped up - the reason these contestants dope is to help their body catch up with them, recover faster, to meet the deadlines for competitions. This has been a moral grey area for many years, due to giving younger bodybuilders unhealthy expectations and unrealistic perceptions of what they're capable of, despite being on a copious amount of 'gear' these contestants also won the genetic lottery in many ways.

Here is a interview between infamous Internet personality, Joe Rogan, and Ronnie Coleman, Mr Olympia for 8 consecutive year in a row - here Coleman reveals a look into the 1% of bodybuilders, his doping cycle, the use of steroids during shows and life into his retirement. Ronnie was forced into retirement after discovering he had a herniated disc for 10 years and was unaware, now he lives partially paralysed, to date he has had 13 surgeries on his spine so far, and the numerous screws, cages, and bolts that were implanted in him nearly crippled him. He has lost most of his mobility, however he can still move with some help.

This is the same man to have squatted over 360kg, (roughly the weight of a polar bear) and went cold turkey from steroids with little to no withdrawals or side effects.

What steroids do professional bodybuilders use?

There are many types of anabolic steroids, most are incredibly dangerous, however the most popular is Trenbolone, this is regarded as the better of the many many evils.

Trenbolone comes with many effects, Increased muscle mass, weight loss, Incredible strength and even better sex life, however has some severe downsides, such as hair loss, acne breakouts, increased hair growth in less common places, and even depression.

Trenbolone has been used by athletes for generations due to its 'minor' side effects in comparison to other steroids. However Trenbolone can also cause in some cases erectile dysfunction, some people use caber (Cabergoline)  to counter the prolactin sides. The results depend on the person. A result being leaner and having a lower body fat % is that the user is typically exhausted due to having less energy.

Testosterone is anyone steroid taken, obviously in higher dosages than what occurs in most males body - this results in higher muscle mass and a 'leaner' physique

Anabolic steroids are taken in multiple ways, most anabolic steroids are injections, typically in the glute or shoulder muscle. However can also be a pellet implant under the skin, an oral solution or cream.

Taking AASs in cycles of 6 to 12 weeks (known as the "on" period), then 4 to several months off, is referred to as cycling.

In an effort to increase the effectiveness of the steroids, users may stack many different types of steroids or add additional substances. We refer to this as "stacking."

Pyramiding: Some users raise the dose gradually until it reaches a peak, then lower it.

There is no proof, nevertheless, that these techniques lessen dangers.
